What Is Red Light Therapy &

How Does It Work?

Red light therapy is a form of photobiomodulation that uses low-level red and/or near-infrared light to stimulate cellular processes and thereby increase cellular energy production. The light is delivered by devices such as LED panels, lamps, or handheld probes that emit wavelengths ranging from 600 to 1200 nanometers.

The light penetrates the skin and reaches the mitochondria, the energy-producing organelles of the cells. There, it activates a protein called cytochrome c oxidase, which increases the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the molecule that fuels cellular activities. Red light therapy also modulates the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are involved in inflammation, oxidative stress, and cell signaling. By increasing ATP and reducing ROS, red light therapy can improve various aspects of health and wellness, such as wound healing, skin rejuvenation, pain relief, muscle recovery, cognitive function and more.

How Should I Use Red
Light Therapy?

Many of our devices come with a hanging kit consisting of a door mount, an adjustable pulley, hanging cables, an instruction card and a user manual that will allow you to set up your device quickly and easily. The devices can also be used set on a hard surface like a table, countertop or desk.

When it comes to light therapy, dose is important. If the dose is too small, benefits are left on the table. If the dose is too great, the benefits are negated.

For skin and topical treatments, shoot for a dose between 3J/cm2 and 10J/cm2 per treatment area. For deep tissue treatments, shoot for a dose between 10J/cm2 and 50J/cm2 per treatment area. You should try to treat daily, but no more than 2x/day (spaced out to morning and evening). Try not to exceed a total dose of more than 120J/cm2 in a day.
