What Is Red Light Therapy & How Does It Work?

Red and near infrared light therapy is the process of using medical grade LED lights to deliver concentrated & specific wavelengths of light to our bodies. The cells in our bodies are able to absorb these specific wavelengths of light, using them to stimulate ATP production within the mitochondria of our cells by interacting with a photoreceptor known as cytochrome c oxidase.

How Should I Use Red Light Therapy?

Using red light therapy in the comfort of your own home has never been less expensive, more convenient, or than ever before thanks to advancements in technology and LED bulbs. Our Hooga red light therapy devices are all designed with comfort, affordability, and safety in mind.

Each of our devices comes with a hanging kit consisting of a door mount, an adjustable pulley, hanging cables, an instruction card and a user manual that will allow you to set up your device quickly and easily so you can start experiencing the benefits of red light therapy right away. The devices can also be used set on a hard surface like a table, countertop, or desk.

When it comes to light therapy, dose is important. If the dose is too small, benefits are left on the table. If the dose is too great, the benefits are negated. In our manual, we teach you how to calculate your dose in Joules (a measurement of light) based on the length of time you use the device and from what distance away from the device you choose to use it at.

For skin and topical treatments, shoot for a dose between 3J and 10J per treatment area. For deep tissue treatments, shoot for a dose between 10J and 50J per treatment area. Try not to exceed a cumulative, total body dose of more than 120J in a day.
