What "FDA Class II" means for both brands
FDA status is the same. PlatinumLED® markets its BIOMAX and BIOMAX PRO panels as FDA Class II registered medical devices. Those panels are listed with the FDA under product code ILY (infrared therapeutic heating lamp, 21 CFR 890.5500). Hooga’s HG, PRO and ULTRA panels are listed under the same Class II product code, through our manufacturing partner’s FDA establishment registration. This device type is exempt from 510(k), so neither brand’s panels are 510(k) cleared. As PlatinumLED®'s own blog puts it, FDA registration is "a baseline market-access step" that does not validate performance.
Safety certification is a real difference. PlatinumLED® panels carry an ETL safety mark on the finished device. Hooga panels carry panel-level FCC, CE (EMC and LVD) and RoHS certificates and are built in an ISO 13485:2016 certified facility, but the finished panel does not currently carry a UL or ETL mark. Does Hooga have FDA clearance?
Neither brand’s panels are 510(k) cleared, because this device type is exempt from 510(k). Hooga and PlatinumLED® both list their panels with the FDA as Class II devices under product code ILY (21 CFR 890.5500). An FDA listing is not FDA approval or clearance. Hooga sells its panels for general wellness use and does not make claims about treating, curing, or preventing any condition.

Neither approach is universally better — it depends on whether you'd rather use your phone or a dedicated control panel.
Does Hooga offer a modular setup like PlatinumLED®'s array system?
Yes. Hooga's PRO and ULTRA series panels are stand-compatible: you can run a single PRO750 or PRO1500, then add additional panels mounted on a stand to build out a multi-panel setup later. PlatinumLED®'s modular approach is different — BIOMAX panels link via patch cables and brackets, and the newer BIOMAX PRO line uses a "zero-gap" design that eliminates the gap between panels in an array. Is PlatinumLED® made in the USA?
PlatinumLED® is a US-headquartered brand based in California, but their panels are manufactured in China by a partner facility, per public US Customs import records and industry sources. Their FDA-registered facility designation refers to the manufacturing site. Hooga also designs in the US and manufactures overseas — neither brand is fully US-made, and we'd encourage anyone for whom that matters to ask both companies directly.
