Hooga vs PlatinumLED: Red Light Therapy Panel Comparison
A spec-by-spec, price-by-price look at how Hooga panels stack up against PlatinumLED Therapy Lights' BIOMAX and BIOMAX PRO lineups. All numbers pulled directly from each brand's published product pages.
Quick take: PlatinumLED® has been one of the most established names in the red light therapy panel space — 16+ years in the category, built around a 7-wavelength spectrum and FDA Class II Medical Device registration. Hooga is the value-engineered alternative — comparable LED counts, similar dual-wavelength performance, and four-wavelength options on our ULTRA series, often at a meaningfully lower price.
- Price gap is the headline: A PlatinumLED® BIOMAX 600 is $1,049. A Hooga PRO1500 is $1,199 with 100 more LEDs and the same 36" footprint. Step up to 900 LEDs and full-body coverage with our PRO4500 for $3,099 — there's no PlatinumLED® panel of that height.
- Wavelengths: PlatinumLED®'s BIOMAX and BIOMAX PRO panels emit 7 wavelengths (480 + 630 + 660 + 810 + 830 + 850 + 1060 nm). Hooga's PRO series uses two (660 + 850 nm). Our ULTRA1500 and ULTRA4500 use four (630 + 660 + 810 + 850 nm).
- PlatinumLED®'s real advantages: 7-wavelength spectrum, FDA Class II Medical Device registration, ETL safety testing, individual wavelength control on the BIOMAX PRO line, and a 60-day return window.
- Hooga's real advantages: price, single full-body panels that stand 5+ feet tall, an onboard digital touchscreen with adjustable brightness and pulse on the ULTRA line, and a 3-year warranty matching PlatinumLED®'s.
- Beyond panels: Hooga also offers a sauna-rated panel, hair/scalp devices, face masks, full-body wraps, and dozens of targeted devices. PlatinumLED®'s catalog is panels and a sauna panel.
- If price is the deciding factor: Hooga is the clear answer at most tiers. If a 7-wavelength spectrum and FDA Class II Medical Device registration matter most, PlatinumLED® has the edge.
Targeted-treatment panels: Hooga PRO300 vs PlatinumLED® BIOMAX 300
PlatinumLED®'s smallest BIOMAX panel is the BIOMAX 300 at $659. Hooga's most popular targeted panel, the PRO300, is $299. Both are sized for face, neck, shoulder, knee, and joint sessions. New to red light therapy? Start with our complete guide to red light therapy.

The PRO300 is more than half the price of the BIOMAX 300 with the same warranty term. PlatinumLED® brings a wider 7-wavelength spectrum and the BIOMAX app ecosystem; Hooga keeps it simple with onboard controls and a built-in adjustable stand. If the wider wavelength range matters most to you, the BIOMAX 300 has it. If price and a built-in stand matter more, the PRO300 is the value play.
Half-body panels: Hooga PRO1500 vs PlatinumLED® BIOMAX 600
PlatinumLED®'s mid-tier panel is the BIOMAX 600 ($1,049, 200 LEDs, 36" tall). Hooga's PRO1500 ($1,199) is the same 36" height with 300 LEDs and ships with the same 660 + 850 nm wavelengths used in most clinical research.

The PRO1500 is $150 more than the BIOMAX 600 but ships with 100 more LEDs in roughly the same footprint. PlatinumLED®'s 7-wavelength spectrum is the standout here — that's their signature. The BIOMAX also has a polished app ecosystem if you'd rather control sessions from your phone. If you want broader wavelength variety and an app, the BIOMAX 600 is built for that. If you'd rather pay less, get more LEDs, and skip the app, the PRO1500 is the value pick.
Want a four-wavelength panel? Hooga ULTRA1500 vs PlatinumLED® BIOMAX 600
Hooga's PRO line uses 660 + 850 nm. Our ULTRA1500 adds 630 nm and 810 nm — four wavelengths in every session — through 300 quad-chip LEDs. The PlatinumLED® BIOMAX runs all 7 wavelengths simultaneously across single-chip LEDs.

The ULTRA1500 is $350 more than the BIOMAX 600 but adds 100 more LEDs (300 vs. 200), each one a quad-chip emitting four wavelengths. PlatinumLED® keeps the 7-wavelength edge and includes 480 nm blue and 1060 nm. If you want the broadest wavelength menu, that's PlatinumLED®. If you'd rather have an onboard digital touchscreen with adjustable brightness, pulse, and timer that doesn't require an app or remote, the ULTRA1500 is built that way.
Full-body panels: Hooga PRO4500 / ULTRA4500 vs PlatinumLED® BIOMAX 900
PlatinumLED®'s flagship BIOMAX 900 ($1,299) is a 36"-tall panel with 300 LEDs. Hooga's PRO4500 ($3,099) and ULTRA4500 ($3,499) are different beasts entirely — 900 LEDs in panels that stand more than five feet tall.

PRO4500 product page; ULTRA4500 product page; BIOMAX 900 specs from PlatinumLED®'s BIOMAX product page (retrieved May 2026).
This is a different-category comparison. The BIOMAX 900 is PlatinumLED®'s flagship and brings a 7-wavelength spectrum at $1,299 — but at 36" tall it covers half-body standing. To get full-body PlatinumLED® coverage, you'd typically add a second BIOMAX or move up to the BIOMAX PRO ULTRA ($1,599, also 36" tall), or build a multi-panel array.
Hooga's PRO4500 is a single 5+ foot panel with 900 dual-chip LEDs that covers head to feet in one session. The ULTRA4500 adds two more wavelengths in a quad-chip configuration. If you want the BIOMAX's wavelength variety and you're okay with 36" height (or an array build), it's a strong panel for the price. If you want true single-panel full-body coverage without assembling multiple units, our PRO4500 and ULTRA4500 are built for that.
The premium tier: PlatinumLED® BIOMAX PRO ULTRA vs Hooga full-body arrays
PlatinumLED®'s newest line, the BIOMAX PRO, launched in 2025 with three signature upgrades over standard BIOMAX: 50% more light output, individual wavelength control (each of 7 wavelengths can be independently dimmed), and a "zero-gap" modular design that eliminates dead zones between panels. Their flagship, the BIOMAX PRO ULTRA, is $1,599 with 432 LEDs in a 36" × 12" panel.

Hooga array pricing calculated as 4× individual panel price; contact us if you're building a multi-panel setup. PlatinumLED® specs and pricing from the BIOMAX PRO product page (retrieved May 2026).
This is where the two brands diverge most. The BIOMAX PRO ULTRA is a single, technologically advanced panel with individual wavelength control, six Smart Modes, and pulse wave control — a great single-panel option if you want one premium device with maximum spectrum flexibility. Hooga's 4× ULTRA1500 array gives you ~3× the LED count across a much larger total treatment area, with onboard controls on each panel — a great option if you want full-body coverage in a single session and prefer wired hardware controls.
If you'd rather skip the multi-panel build entirely, our single PRO4500 ($3,099) and ULTRA4500 ($3,499) both stand 5+ feet tall on their own — no stand purchase, no array assembly, and still less than a 4× BIOMAX PRO ULTRA setup.

What "FDA Class II Medical Device" actually means here
This is worth explaining honestly because it's a real difference. PlatinumLED® markets its BIOMAX and BIOMAX PRO panels as FDA Class II Medical Devices manufactured in an FDA-registered facility. PlatinumLED®'s own blog draws a useful distinction: "FDA-registered is a baseline market-access step. They tell you who makes the device and where it is manufactured, but they do not validate performance." FDA-registered and FDA-cleared (510(k)) are not legally identical, and consumers should weigh whichever they care about.
Hooga panels are sold as general wellness products and are not 510(k) cleared. We do not market them with specific medical indications, and we don't make medical claims about treating, curing, or preventing disease.
For most home users, this distinction often doesn't change how the panel feels, what it emits, or how you use it day-to-day. It does mean PlatinumLED® has gone through an FDA registration process Hooga has not. That's a fair point in their favor, and you should weigh it according to what matters to you.

See all Hooga panelsThe bottom line on specs that actually matter
Both PlatinumLED® and Hooga sell well-built red light therapy panels with low-EMF, flicker-free designs. PlatinumLED® has invested heavily in their 7-wavelength spectrum, FDA Class II Medical Device registration, ETL medical-electrical safety testing, and an expanding product ecosystem with the BIOMAX PRO line — and they charge a premium for it. Hooga has invested heavily in driving similar LED counts and dual or four-wavelength performance at a price point that's typically 30–55% lower, plus a wider ecosystem of non-panel devices.
If you've already decided you want PlatinumLED®'s 7-wavelength spectrum, individual wavelength control, or FDA Class II Medical Device registration, buy a BIOMAX. If you want strong panel performance for less money — especially for full-body coverage — Hooga is built for that.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Hooga as effective as PlatinumLED®?
Effectiveness in red light therapy comes down to wavelength, irradiance (power density), treatment area, and consistency of use. PlatinumLED® leads on wavelength variety — their 7-wavelength spectrum (480 + 630 + 660 + 810 + 830 + 850 + 1060 nm) is one of the broadest available. Hooga's PRO panels use the two most-studied wavelengths (660 + 850 nm); our ULTRA panels add 630 nm and 810 nm for four wavelengths total. We don't make medical claims about either product, but on raw specs Hooga is competitive — especially in LED count and treatment area at comparable price points.
Why is PlatinumLED® so much more expensive at the entry tier?
PlatinumLED® invests in things that don't all show up in the LED count: FDA Class II Medical Device registration, ETL medical-electrical safety testing, R&D on a 7-wavelength spectrum, and individual wavelength control on the BIOMAX PRO line. Those costs are real, and they show up in the price. Whether they're worth the premium for your use case is your call.
Does Hooga have FDA clearance?
No. Hooga panels are sold as general wellness products and are not 510(k) cleared. We do not make medical claims about treating, curing, or preventing any condition. PlatinumLED®'s BIOMAX and BIOMAX PRO panels are marketed as FDA Class II Medical Devices manufactured in an FDA-registered facility. Note: "FDA-registered" and "FDA-cleared" are different regulatory steps — even PlatinumLED®'s own blog distinguishes them. If FDA Class II registration is a hard requirement for you, PlatinumLED® meets that requirement and Hooga does not.
What's the difference between PlatinumLED®'s app and Hooga's onboard controls?
PlatinumLED®'s BIOMAX and BIOMAX PRO panels are controlled through a remote and an iOS/Android app over Bluetooth — adjustable wavelength group dimming, timer, pulse on the PRO line, and Smart Modes on the PRO line. Hooga's ULTRA1500 and ULTRA4500 put adjustable brightness (red and NIR independent), pulse frequency (1–9999 Hz), and timer onto a built-in digital touchscreen on the panel itself. Neither approach is universally better — it depends on whether you'd rather use your phone or a dedicated control panel.
Does Hooga offer a modular setup like PlatinumLED®'s array system?
Yes. Hooga's PRO and ULTRA series panels are stand-compatible: you can run a single PRO750 or PRO1500, then add additional panels mounted on a stand to build out a multi-panel setup later. PlatinumLED®'s modular approach is different — BIOMAX panels link via patch cables and brackets, and the newer BIOMAX PRO line uses a "zero-gap" design that eliminates the gap between panels in an array. Both approaches work; the BIOMAX PRO array is more polished, the Hooga setup is generally less expensive per panel.
Which Hooga panel should I get if I'm coming from a PlatinumLED® BIOMAX 600?
If you want a similar 36" half-body form factor with more LEDs and an onboard digital touchscreen, the PRO1500 ($1,199) is the closest match. If you want to step up to four wavelengths with onboard pulse and brightness control, the ULTRA1500 ($1,399) is the upgrade. If you want a true single-panel full-body experience, the PRO4500 ($3,099) gives you 5+ feet of coverage. Browse all Hooga panels.
Does Hooga or PlatinumLED® have a longer warranty?
Both brands offer a 3-year warranty on most panels — the terms are comparable.
Return policy comparison?
PlatinumLED® offers a 60-day satisfaction guarantee on LED panels, with a 20% restocking fee on elective returns and customer-paid return shipping. Stands and accessories are non-refundable. Hooga offers a 30-day return window. If a longer trial period matters more than the restocking fee math, PlatinumLED® has the edge.
Is PlatinumLED® made in the USA?
PlatinumLED® is a US-headquartered brand based in California, but their panels are manufactured in China by a partner facility, per public US Customs import records and industry sources. Their FDA-registered facility designation refers to the manufacturing site. Hooga also designs in the US and manufactures overseas — neither brand is fully US-made, and we'd encourage anyone for whom that matters to ask both companies directly.
